N64 Blog’s Best Buys of the Week 14/01/13

Martin Watts January 15, 2013

So we’re about halfway through the dreaded month that is January. Bank balances across the world are no doubt starting to look a little bare as a result of expensive heating bills and all that comfort food we’ve needed to get us to this point in the month.

But not all is as bad as it seems. Your ever-loving saviours at N64 Blog have been scouring the web in search of a few more great deals for you to distract yourself from the cold with. In keeping with the theme of the month—Christmas-induced poverty—we’ve been on the lookout for affordable deals that are bound to put a smile on your flu-ridden faces.

If you have an offer you want to share with us (given that we’re based in the UK, some help with international offers would be hugely appreciated), just drop us a line to contact@n64blog.com, and we’ll happily include it. Provided it’s a worthwhile bargain, of course!

Last Legion UX

  • Condition: cart only
  • Region: NTSC-J (Japan)
  • Price: £12.99 + P&P
  • Available at: GenkiVideoGames.com

Genki has stumbled across a neat little gem here in the form of Last Legion UX. In this Japanese exclusive, you take control of giant robots and battle it out, which sure sounds like a good laugh. From a gameplay perspective, it certainly looks very fun and quite different from most titles in the N64′s library.

Wave Race 64 Rumble Version

  • Condition: used, complete in box
  • Region: NTSC-J
  • Price: £12.99 + P&P
  • Available at: GenkiVideoGames.com

We want to preface this particular entry by saying: “Don’t get mad at us!”. Last week, we suggested that you pick up a PAL copy of Wave Race 64. We know it’s a poor PAL-NTSC conversion, but it’s still very fun regardless. Well, Genki went and added a boxed copy of Wave Race 64 Rumble Version to their site this week. This particular copy was a re-release that came out exclusively in Japan after the Rumble Pak was released in April 1997. It makes the sensation of racing across the waves even more thrilling, especially when it runs at full speed and without those dreadful black borders. It also features some changes to the music and sound effects, as well as a new ghost feature for the Time Trial mode.

Turok Three Game Set

turok dinosaur hunter, turok 2 seeds of evil, turok 3 shadow of oblivion

  • Used, cart only
  • Region: PAL
  • Price: £18.99 (+ £3 delivery)
  • Available at: eBay (UK seller)

If you’re a Nintendo 64 enthusiast, then the Turok games are well worth your time. They may not share the same level of polish as Rare’s GoldenEye 007 or Perfect Dark, but they’re still a pretty good blast. The series underwent a pretty impressive and radical transformation as it progressed (anyone would think that Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion were released on different systems), and although the story is a bit weird, the gameplay is frantic and surprisingly tough in all three games. This is a cracking price for what is on offer. Be quick, however, as they’re only on sale for another two days!
